Rangers & Young Leaders Winter Adventure

In Febraury, a group of Young Leaders and Rangers from across the county came together for our second annual MNW Ranger and Young Leader Winter Event! This time with the option to either join us on the Saturday for a day of adventurous activities or to extend the fun and stay the whole weekend. We had a great mixture of Rangers and YLs from across the county, with our biggest attendance at a weekend so far.

“I enjoyed the activities that were laid on and that we had free time to relax. It was a fun filled weekend that I would definitely do again!” – Ranger (Eastcote District)

The young members arrived on the Friday evening with time to settle in before dinner, then after dinner three returning Rangers ran icebreakers and a quiz for everyone to have some fun and get to know each other. They did an amazing job and it’s lovely to see the young members stepping up to plan and run activities for their peers.

“It was really good!! I was really impressesd by the food provisions, they were really tasty and inclusive!” – Ranger (Hatch End District)

On Saturday morning, we were joined by our day attendees and set out for a day of activities. The morning activities consisted of Zip Lines and Rifles, with lots a proud young members improving on previous Rifling attempts and facing their fears on the Zip Line.

“I enjoyed time with friends and trying new activities. My favourite activity was Rifle Shooting” – Young Leader (Stanmore District)

The young members then in enjoyed some free time to explore the site and socialise with their new friends until lunchtime. After Lunch, it was time for more activities, Axe Throwing and High Ropes. It was the first time a lot of the young members had done Axe Throwing and it was great to see how much some of them improved in their first session, with lot’s of hits on target by the end. We also saw lot’s of young members facing their fears at High Ropes and we were so proud of how they all supported each other.

“My favourite activity was High Ropes, I had got more confident once started even though I was very nervous. I enjoyed Rifle Shooting, I was surprised I was good!” – Young Leader (Pinner Village District)

We then said goodbye to our day attendees, and the young members relaxed for the rest of the afternoon playing games and doing some crafts. The jewellery making and diamond painted were particularly popular.

“It was so much fun. I really enjoyed all the activities and having a day with my friends.– Young Leader (Northwood District)

“I enjoyed the activities and having free time to explore the woods and spend time with friends.” – Ranger/Young Leader (Harrow Town District)

After dinner, unfortunately the weather meant we were unable to have a campfire but this didn’t stop everyone singing a few songs and having an evening chatting, playing games and getting to know each other further.

“I enjoyed the games, activities and free time, it was a packed day of mud and trying new things!” – Ranger/Young Leader (Hatch End District)

In the morning, we had a purposely late start to allow everyone to have a lie in, and then started our morning with pancakes for breakfast. We then had one last activity and everyone had a great time racing round the track in the peddle karts. After this we had a lovely closing ceremony and everyone headed home, exhausted but having made new friends and having a great weekend.

“My favourite part was doing the activities and spending time meeting new people and having fun with friends.” – Ranger (Hatch End District)

A massive thank you to Ciara, Jenni and Piper for volunteering over the weekend and to Clare who joined us on the Saturday, we could not have done the weekend without you!

“Massive thank you to all the Leaders that organised it. I’ve been revising for my mock GCSES, so this was a nice break from revision.” – Young Leader (Stanmore District)

“I would like to thank our leaders for being very kind and meeting everyone’s needs” – Ranger (Hatch End District)
