What’s it like to be a Girlguiding Spokesperson?

Harrow Brownie leader Cassie is a spokesperson for Girlguiding. We caught up with her to find out what that involves.

As a Guiding spokesperson I have had some amazing opportunities to speak about the fun we have in guiding on radio and television. While I am at university during term time I am a Brownie Leader in Harrow, and I am also a Peer Educator and run Free Being Me sessions to Brownie and Guide groups across London to help improve their body confidence.

I love being a part of guiding because no matter where you meet someone whether it be half way across the world or just the other side of town you have something in common.

In my spokesperson role I have been to parliament to talk with MPs about our #GirlsMatter campaign which encourages politicians to listen to what matters to girls and young women. Through this I have greatly improved my networking skills and confidence which has helped me at university and when looking for jobs.

I would really recommend if you are in the Senior Section (that’s anyone in guiding aged 14-26, leaders and rangers included!) to apply to become a spokesperson, you get all the training on the job but you are likely to have lots of the skills anyway just by being in guiding!
