Hillingdon Community Awards
We are delighted to share that two of our County members, Brenda Tilbury and Lesley Betts have been recognised at the Hillingdon Community Awards, winning Gold and Bronze in the Helping the Community category.
They were selected from 167 nominations and were invited to a special awards evening on Wednesday 16th April 2025.
At the event, held in the Council Chamber, the awards were presented by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Colleen Sullivan, alongside the Leader of the Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, and the Council’s Chief Executive, Tony Zaman.

Brenda Tilbury
Brenda has been a dedicated Leader at 1st Hillingdon Guides since gaining her warrant and has held various roles including District Commissioner, Volunteer Shop Manager, and Unit Administrator. She’s also an active member of the local Trefoil Guild and been in guiding for over 60 years.
Brenda continues to be a valued and active member of the 1st Hillingdon leadership team, attending weekly meetings and supporting the unit by preparing materials and sharing her extensive Guiding experience. Despite mobility challenges in recent years, her commitment and enthusiasm remain unwavering, making her an integral part of the Hillingdon District Guiding community.

Lesley Betts
Over the past 17 years, Lesley has gone above and beyond in supporting Girlguiding members aged 14 to 25 to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award. She has promoted hard-work, dedication and has supported young people through the challenges and opportunities the DofE Award offers.
As a DofE Leader, Supervisor and the County DofE Advisor for Girlguiding Middlesex North West, Lesley has ensured that participants not only complete the required activities but also grow in confidence, skills, and resilience. She has shown exceptional commitment to the values of the DofE program and Girlguiding, including personal development, teamwork, and community service, and has played a key role in helping young people navigate their physical, skill-building, and volunteering challenges.
Lesley was unable to make this awards evening but we hope to recognise her achievement at our upcoming County Awards evening.
Marian says: “It’s wonderful to see Brenda and Lesley acknowledged for everything they do in Girlguiding. Their enthusiasm and dedication make such a difference, and it’s fantastic to see their hard work recognised in this way. Huge congratulations to them both on this well-earned achievement.”
