On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September Harrow and Pinner Division held two Skills Builder Days at Willow Tree for young members in the Division. Over the two days Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers completed either Stage 2, Stage 3 or Stage 5 of their Explore Skills Builder.
We had previously held a Camp Skills Builder Day back in 2019 where we had just Rainbows and Brownies completing their Stage 2, this time we wanted to open it to all sections so we decided to expand the day meaning Rainbows and Brownies could complete Stage 2, Brownies and Guides could complete Stage 3 and Guides and Rangers could complete Stage 5. One of the best things about the event was seeing the different sections mix with each other and Skills Builders are a great way for us to do that!
The Rainbows and Brownies who completed Stage 2 learnt about the Countryside Code, map grid references, staying comfortable when out on adventures and how to make a compass! The Brownies and Guides who completed Stage 3 learnt about navigation using a sextant, symbols on a map, staying safe in the sun and different ways to travel the world. The Guides and Rangers who completed Stage 5 learnt about using trees and nature for navigation, customs in other countries and being a respectful traveller, finding clean water and using GPS coordinates. The weather was great all weekend and we finished each day with everyone joining together for a campfire.
A massive thank you to all the volunteers who made the day possible!
